Jupiter
Map Notes

File Format: Jupiter.jpg - Full colour 1800x900 JPG file, 297K.
Map Type: Simple Cylindrical Projection.
Map Origin: Constructed by Björn Jónsson from Cassini data (JPL/NASA).
Map coverage: Full 360° wrap (centred around 180°), full pole-to-pole coverage.
Image coverage: Vertical edge: 0°W. Horizontal edge: 90° N/S.

Radius (1 km = 1 POV unit): 71,400 km
Average distance from primary (1 km = 1 POV unit): 780,040,000 km

NOTES: Jupiter's ring system is extremely faint and not usually visible (the exposure time on the Voyager images that contained rings was very long) - generally, they should not be rendered at all. However, if you should need to render them it is best to use discs with the following radii:

Halo Ring (innermost): Inner radius 100,000 km; Outer radius 122,808 km.
Main Ring (middle): Inner radius 122,808 km; Outer radius 129,234 km.
Gossamer Ring (outermost): Inner radius 129,234 km; Outer radius 214,200 km.

Again, all three rings are usually invisible - only the Main Ring is solid enough to be visible even on 'long-exposure' images. The Halo and Gossamer rings are extremely tenuous and are only really visible near the Main Ring.
